Reconnecting customers a priority – 7pm update

Saturday, May 21, 2022

Powerco Head of Network Operations Caz Haydon says crews are working into the evening to reconnect the remaining 745 customers still without power, as a result of wild weather-related outages across the network.

“Our crews are doing everything they can to get the power back on as quickly and safely as possible, but the extent of the damage and complexity of repairs means some Whanganui customers could remain off overnight.”

Whanganui is currently the most impacted region on Powerco’s network, with 348 customers without power.

“Although work is progressing, for safety reasons we will have to stand down our crews at 8pm, except for those who will be on hand to respond to any emergencies during the night.

“We know that the possibility of not having power overnight is a difficult message for our customers to hear, but our crews will continue repairs in the daylight as our priority.

“We’d like to thank customers for their continued patience and understanding.”

In the event of an emergency such as lines coming down, people should stay well clear of lines and call Powerco’s emergency line on 0800 27 27 27 which operates 24/7.
