New way of managing customer work

The way we manage customers' electricity projects is changing

We're changing the way we work with customers. From 1 September 2025 customers will work with us directly, rather than go to Powerco Approved Contractors (PACs) to get their electricity projects done.

How's it going to work?

Customers, and agents working on behalf of customers (such as electricians), will use Powerco Connect on our website to submit their connection or modification requests. We’ll go through the options, confirm what’s needed and agree on the best pathway. Customers will be kept informed each step of the way.

Get ready

Before you start, you’ll need to get prepared.

  • Property details – where do you need the work to be done?
  • Electrician details – talk to your electrician about what you need.
  • Electricity supply requirements – how many phases and amps will be needed?
  • Invoice payer details – who will pay for this work?
  • Electricity retailer – who will send the power bill?
  • Electricity bill payer details – who will pay the power bill?

Timing

From 1 September 2025 customers, and agents working on behalf of customers (such as electricians), will submit their request for network connections, extensions and modifications using Powerco Connect on our website. We will then assess and allocate work for delivery to one of our contractors.

All customer work already in progress as at 1 September will be completed by the original PAC using legacy systems.

Want to connect now?

If you want to add or modify a connection, please contact a Powerco Contractor who will use the existing process (known as the customer-initiated works or CIWe process) to complete the electricity work.

We’re aware that some customer work is not able to be accepted by existing Powerco Approved Contractors as we transition to our new way of managing customer work. We look forward to accepting your connection requests from 1 September.

What will it cost?

Customer work will be split into three pathways - network ready, simple and complex work.

Network ready - the existing network is fully able to support the connection. This is a streamlined process with standard pricing.

Simple - includes moderate complexity jobs that may require some network development, such as minor extensions or upgrades. Jobs can be standard priced or non-standard priced and may or may not require a design contribution upfront.

Complex - requires a flexible delivery approach due to significant network development, complex design, commercial or legal requirements. They usually involve significant network development, a separate design phase and bespoke payment plans.

Pricing for network ready work will involve standard fees. We have structured fees for simple jobs, and flexible, detailed payment structures for complex work to ensure transparency and fairness for all customers.

Why is this change taking place?

We put our customers first and we’re continually looking for ways to improve our customers’ experience of working with Powerco.

By moving from our PACs working directly with customers, to a new customer delivery model where Powerco will manage the end-to-end customer experience we will have greater oversight of the quality, safety and the service we provide to customers.

Electricians or contractors?
