Palmerston North network

The Palmerston North CBD is the second-largest central business district we serve, and our largest exclusively underground network.

We’ve been working on a number of projects for the Palmerston North community to expand, renew and rebalance our assets and ensure our customers have continued security of power supply.

The $22.6 million electricity investment programme projects included:

  • Construction of a new substation on the corner of Linton and Ferguson streets - Complete

  • Installation of a second transformer at the new substation - Complete

  • Upgrade of underground cabling between Linton and Pascal Street substations - Complete

  • Construction of a new indoor 33kV switchroom at our Linton substation - Complete

  • Construction of two new underground circuits from Linton substation to the new Ferguson St substation - Complete

  • Installation of larger capacity cables between Ferguson and Main Street substations - Complete
  • Removal of power poles and overhead lines between Keith St and Main St substations - Complete

About 3km of power lines and 50 poles have been removed between Keith St and Main St substations in Palmerston North.

Milestones

2018 - 2020

Installation of larger capacity cables between Pascal, Ferguson, Main and Keith Streets.

 

2019

New Ferguson St substation commissioned.

Upgrade of underground cabling between Linton and Pascal Street substations.

 

2021

Commissioned second transformer at the new Ferguson St substation.

 

2022

Completed new indoor 33kV switchroom at Linton substation.

Completed construction of two new circuits from Linton to Ferguson St substations.

Installed larger capacity cables between Ferguson St and Main St substations.

Removed power poles and overhead lines between Keith St and Main St substations.
