Levin cathodic protection upgrade

We’re future-proofing our gas pipeline in Levin.

Over the last year we’ve been working to restore the cathodic protection on our steel gas pipeline supplying Levin. Cathodic protection stops the corrosion of our underground metal pipes that would otherwise be affected by the moisture in the soil.

As part of the project, we’ve also improved safety for our service providers who maintain our assets with the relocation of equipment from the shoulder of a busy highway.

Additionally we've installed remote monitoring to measure the performance of our cathodic protection systems in both Levin and Palmerston North. This allows both our team and our service providers to be alerted in real-time in the event of system failure.

Overall this work will help ensure our gas networks remain safe and reliable for years to come. It also helps to reduce the cost of monitoring and maintaining our gas assets.

We’d like to thank the local community for their patience while we carried out this important work.
