Wild weather wrap up

Tuesday, June 21, 2022

Our electricity network was impacted by wild weather from Saturday 11 June – Wednesday 15 June.

Wind gusts reached up to 120km/hour across our network, with Whanganui and Wairarapa regions the hardest hit.

At its peak 10,000 customers were affected, and in total 29,000 customers were impacted over the five days.

Our field crews attended 1,070 jobs to reconnect customers.

A big thank you to our customers for your patience as we worked as quickly and as safely as possible to reconnect you while the storm continued to blow through.

You’ll see below some footage of the helicopter that was used to re-string electricity lines across the Whanganui River – a beautiful (and challenging) part of our network.
