Crews working to reconnect customers - 7pm update

Monday, February 14, 2022
Fields crews are working hard into the evening to try and reconnect some of the 8,945 customers still without power as a result of Sunday’s storm.

Network Operations Manager Scott Horniblow says that while work is progressing as quickly and safely as possible, some customers may not have their power restored this evening.

“We’re doing everything we can to get the power back on, but due to the extent of the damage and complexity of repairs, some customers could remain off overnight,” he says.

“Our crews have been working into the evening to reconnect customers but for safety reasons we will have to stand them down at 8pm, except for those who will be on hand to respond to any emergencies during the night.

“We know that the possibility of not having power overnight is a difficult message for customers to hear, but we can assure them that our crews will be out tomorrow morning to continue in the daylight.

“For this reason, we have postponed our planned works for Monday and Tuesday so that crews can focus on the reconnecting customers,” says Scott.

“Once again, we’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding.”

Customers can contact their electricity retailer - the company who sends their power bill - about power outages. Alternatively, they can find current outage information and estimated restoration times on Powerco’s website at www.powerco.co.nz/outages

(Please note: some of the restoration times showing on the outage map are incorrect, we apologise for the inconvenience. This is because in some outages have multiple faults, and the complexity of the repairs means restoration times are longer than expected.)
