Bringing community ideas to life
The second round of this year’s Powerco’s Community Fund opens today.
Powerco General Manager Customer Stuart Dickson says the decision to split the fund into two rounds has had a good response, reflected in the variety of community groups applying for funding for their community initiatives.
"We had a strong response to our March funding round and anticipate this second round will also suit the faster turnaround of projects at the grassroots level,” he says.
Applications for round two can be made between 1-31 August 2025, with funding available for projects to be delivered between October 2025 and April 2026 next year.
Powerco will be supporting up to $5,000 per community project.
Stuart Dickson highlights that since the launch of the Powerco Community Fund in 2023, it has supported a wide range of community initiatives within Powerco’s electricity network.
“Since the launch of the fund, we’ve focused on initiatives that are community-driven and benefit the smaller towns and regions we serve. These are the groups and organisations that might find it challenging to secure funding for projects that hold significant value to them and their communities," he says.
Some recent recipients include: Hakeke Street Community Centre, Waikato River Trails Trust, Welcome Bay Community Centre and, Whangamata Community Library.
