Major updates
Monday 29 June 2026 update
More than 100 contracting crew members from around the motū have been working to repair the electricity network and restore customers’ power after high winds pummelled Taranaki, Wairarapa, Manawatū and Whanganui on Friday and over the weekend.
At the peak of the event around 10,000 customers were without power, as at 9am this morning 408 customers remain without power.
Slips and flooding in South Wairarapa have meant crews can’t reach parts of the network to make repairs. They’re working to regain access as quickly as possible and when weather permits a helicopter will be used to survey the lines for faults. Depending on the faults they discover crew and equipment may be able to be dropped in by helicopter to make repairs.
Thank you to the customers who have managed without power - we appreciate how hard it is, especially for multiple days.

How faults are triaged
While we always work to restore power to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible, there is a process we follow when assigning fault jobs:
1. Hazards, such as lines down, that could be a danger to people
2. Large numbers of customers impacted by the same fault on main high voltage line
3. Smaller groups of customers impacted by the same fault
4. Faults affecting individual properties
