Castlepoint-Tīnui electricity network upgrade continues

Castlepoint-Tīnui electricity network upgrade continues

Tuesday, December 16, 2025 December 16 16, 2025

The next stage of work to improve the reliability and quality of power supply for customers in Castlepoint and Tīnui is underway. The work focuses on power line realignment and upgrades on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road area, including relocating power poles away from erosion-prone areas.

“We’re pleased to continue work to build a more reliable and resilient electricity supply for customers in the Castlepoint and Tīnui areas, and we’d like to thank the community in advance for their patience as this upgrade takes place over the next few months,” says Powerco General Manager Electricity Karen Frew.

Work begins in mid-December and will run through to March 2026, and will be carried out by Powerco contractor, Northpower.

To ensure the upgrades can be completed safely and efficiently, some planned power outages are required. The first outage will take place on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, and will affect some customers at Castlepoint beach, while power poles, lines and crossarms nearing the end of their service are being replaced.

“The first phase of work has been planned prior to the holiday period to minimise the impact on Castlepoint holidaymakers,” says Karen Frew.

Thanks to the back-up generator that was installed in 2024, the electricity supply to customers at Castlepoint Beach village will remain on after this initial outage, except for brief 15‑minute interruptions scheduled morning and afternoon during the outage days.

Customers will receive notifications from their electricity retailer (the company they pay their power bill to) ahead of any planned outages.

You can check the planned outage page on our website: https://www.powerco.co.nz/outages/planned-outage.  Details for the January–February 2026 planned outages will be on Powerco’s website.

To allow our contractors to work safely and efficiently, and to keep customers safe, traffic management may be in place where crews are working. Please follow all signage and take care around work sites.

Powerco appreciates the community’s patience while this important reliability work is completed.
