Gas network surveying

We own and operate 6,100km of gas pipes in Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, ManawatÅ«, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington, serving 112,000 homes and businesses.

In order to ensure your gas supply remains safe and reliable we continuously survey our network – rotating through our entire footprint on a five-yearly basis. That survey work includes inspecting the main gas pipeline under the street, as well as individual service lines and gas meters.

What this means for you

Our field crews use a gas detector to sweep the gas mains located underneath streets, as well as individual service lines and gas meters to ensure there are no gas leaks.

They also carry out visual inspections of gas meters.

That means you may see our crews out and about in your neighbourhood, and if you have a gas meter they will access your property to look at your meter.

In the event that there are any issues with a service line or meter, we will be in touch to return to the property to carry out remediation work.

There is no cost to you for carrying out this work.
