Whangamata Community Swimming Pool
As the majority of our energy network is bordered by sea, it’s important that we do our part to help keep our communities safe.
That’s why we’re backing a 12-month water safety programme in Whangamatā to equip local tamariki with lifesaving skills, as well as recruit and train pool lifeguards. The programme is a partnership with the Whangamatā Community Swimming Pool and local schools, and follows our $16,500 contribution towards the Whangamatā Community Swimming Pool’s new transformer which will power new heat pumps – providing year-round use of the pool.
Whangamatā Community Swimming Pool management committee chairperson Rob Boston says “Powerco’s funding will ensure we are able to build on existing programmes which include Learn to Swim, Swim Club and the development of a programme to encourage young people to gain confidence swimming in the ocean. Our thoughts are to encourage students with little or no swimming skills or ability, to progress from 0 to 400 metres by offering a non-threatening, competitive environment.”
