Severe Weather Causes Power Cuts

Saturday, May 24, 2014

Field crews are continuing to make repairs to Powerco's electricity network following damage from high winds in Wairarapa and Tararua.

The severe weather caused trees to fall across overhead lines yesterday evening.

Powerco Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said there were currently 1600 properties without supply.

“We’re getting reports of very high winds in the area and it’s possible there will be further power cuts.”

He said power lines that had fallen to the ground must be treated as live at all times.

“Stay away from any downed power lines and call Powerco’s emergency number 0800 272727.”
