Powerco Rescues Hot Water Beach Paid Lifeguards

Powerco has come to the rescue of the Hot Water Beach Surf Lifesaving Club after a funding shortfall placed its paid lifeguard service at risk.

Powerco Corporate Affairs Manager Neil Holdom said the Company was advised of a funding cut to Hot Water Beach Surf Lifesaving Club in early December.

“Powerco is committed to safety and one of our field services contractors Taui Ganley sent us newspaper article advising that the club was going to have to cut back the number of weeks it provides the paid guard service to Hot water Beach and asked if we could help.”

Powerco has provided close to $7000 to the club to ensure the popular holiday destination is fully staffed with paid lifeguards during the summer season.

Mr Holdom said Powerco has been working with the surf club for the past few years supporting its junior surf members but was pleased to be able to make another tangible contribution to safety on the Coromandel Peninsula this summer.

“Powerco supports surf clubs in Coromandel, Taranaki and Wairarapa as we believe they provide a critical service to kiwis hitting the beach during the summer months as well as providing a great learning and competition environment for youngsters.”
