Power cut after vehicle strikes pole

Electricity was cut to about 690 customers in Whanganui on Saturday night after a vehicle struck a power pole in the suburb of Gonville at 8.16pm.

The streets affected included Alma Rd, Moore Ave and Smithfield Rd.

Powerco Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said the majority of customers’ power was restored by 10.30pm. Power was restored to the remaining customers by 3.20am Sunday after the pole was replaced.
