Major maintenance project planned for Feilding
About 40 electricity linesmen will descend on Feilding next week for a six-hour maintenance project in the eastern part of the town.
Power will be cut to about 1000 customers on Wednesday (17 April) from 9am-3pm as the workers set about replacing cross arms, insulators and installing bird protection equipment along East St and Kimbolton Rd to the town boundary.
Powerco’s general manager of Service Delivery and System Operations, Ian Skipworth, said the scale of the operation was unique and had involved some very detailed planning.
“We were mindful of the amount of urgent maintenance work needed to replace the ageing assets and sought to cause the least disruption to customers as possible,” he said.
“We opted to get it done in a six-hour outage as opposed to a series of planned outages over a number of weeks. We engaged Scanpower for the project who have put together a detailed plan to ensure the work is completed on time.”
Fifteen crews of 2-3 workers will be deployed along the route but there should be minimal disruption to traffic because of the wide road verges.
The work was programmed to coincide with the holidays so any schools in the area were not affected.
