Powerco ensures the ongoing safety and reliability of its networks for customers now and into the future
Powerco is reviewing and prioritising its planned works programme during the Government’s Covid-19 Alert Level 4 status to ensure its electricity and gas networks remain safe and reliable for customers, now and into the future.
As defined by the Government, Powerco is classified as an essential service provider that is required to continue to operate during New Zealand’s Level 4 status. Powerco chief executive Nigel Barbour says, the company is continually assessing its planned works programme to make sure necessary work continues. In addition, work that can be completed at a later date is being identified and will be deferred on the basis that it will not affect the safety and reliability of the network.
Progressing with the planned works programme where possible is fundamental to making sure the electricity and gas networks remain safe and reliable for households and essential services, Mr Barbour says.
“Our staff and crews continue working tirelessly to do their best for our customers and their communities. We know these are stressful times for people who are at home and in many cases are working remotely, which is why we are doing our upmost to minimise disruption to our customers in the event we need to temporarily turn off their energy supply. We are very thankful to all those who have shown patience and understanding as we continue work to keep our network safe and reliable.
“During these unprecedented times, the reliability of our electricity and gas networks is vital to keeping essential services such as GP surgeries, pharmacies, supermarkets and service stations running.
“Prioritising work that needs to be carried out during the coming month also minimises the risk of disruption to our communities further down the track. It prepares our networks as we look ahead to changes in the weather, which contribute to many unplanned power cuts during the autumn and winter months.
“Thank you again for your patience and understanding.”
