Sparky's train message

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Powerco super hero Sparky will continue to spread his electricity safety messages to Manawatu children thanks to a partnership with the Palmerston North Esplanade Scenic Railway.

One of the railway group’s 12 carriages has been refurbished with colours and characters that will ring a bell with school children in the region.

Sparky, the Powerco safety mascot, visited 15 Manawatu schools earlier this year passing on tips and rules to observe to stay safe around electricity.

“More than 3000 children attended our presentation and we wanted Sparky to continue to have a presence in Palmerston North,” Powerco Acting Corporate Affairs Manager, Krysti Wetton, said.

The 2.2km miniature railway in the city’s Victoria Esplanade was the perfect fit for those plans.

“Our school safety programme coordinator took her children for a ride on it recently and thought we needed Sparky on one of the carriages,” she said.

The Railway committee was happy to oblige and Powerco paid for the refurbishment and made a donation to the railway committee.
