Powerco Donates Money Back to Community

Tuesday, November 01, 2011

Powerco is giving the prize money it won at the 2011 Westpac Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Awards back to the community.

The electricity and gas distribution business won the Extra Large Business Award and was highly commended in the Supreme Business Award category.

The company has decided to donate its $1000 prize money to Surf Life Saving New Zealand projects in Taranaki.

Powerco Chief Executive Nigel Barbour said it was a privilege to support the worthwhile cause. “We recognise the importance of supporting the communities in which we operate and are grateful for the work Surf Life Saving New Zealand does in the region.”

Mr Barbour said it was an honour to be recognised at the awards, which celebrated business leadership and excellence.

He said the company had an amazing team of talented and hard working people who took great pride in keeping the power and gas on for communities across the North Island.

“Our people work with great skill, and their achievements largely go under the radar so it’s fantastic for them to receive recognition for their efforts from a third party,” Mr Barbour said.

The 2011 Westpac Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Awards were held in New Plymouth Saturday night.
