Power cuts in Whanganui and Manawatu

Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Severe weather has caused further power cuts in Whanganui and Manawatu overnight.

Yesterday a 7.5 magnitude earthquake centred near Hanmer Springs cut supply to around 15,000 properties in Whanganui and Manawatu. All but 100 customers have had supply restored.

Strong winds overnight resulted in power cuts for around 400 properties in Fordell, Kai Iwi, Kakatahi, Okoia.

Powerco Network Coordination Manager Dean Stevenson said field crews are working to restore supply as soon as possible.

He reminded people to stay well clear of lines and call Powerco’s emergency number on 0800 272 727 if they see fallen power lines.
