Napier gas leak

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Powerco gas field staff isolated a gas leak today at an address in Thames St, Napier.

The Fire Service was on the scene and the incident was called in early afternoon.

The leak, which was found to not be on Powerco’s network, was isolated by about 2.30pm, Powerco Gas Operations Manager Don Elers said.

“The leak was found to be on a gas meter set, which measures gas for the customer, at Galvanising Hawkes Bay. While the equipment was not on our network to fix, we isolated it to make it safe,” Mr Elers said.

Powerco is New Zealand’s second largest electricity utility and largest gas distribution utility with around 442,000 consumers connected to its networks. Powerco’s electricity networks are in Western Bay of Plenty, Thames, Coromandel, Eastern and Southern Waikato, Taranaki, Whanganui, Rangitikei, Manawatu and the Wairarapa. Its gas pipeline networks are in Taranaki, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Wellington, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay.
