Major works on Botanical Road

Thursday, March 23, 2017

Palmerston North motorists are being advised to avoid Botanical Road where possible over the next six weeks while the groundwork is laid for the next phase of a major electricity upgrade.

Electricity distributor Powerco has commenced works along Botanical Road, between Chelwood Street and the Gillespies Line – Temaine Avenue roundabout, to pave the way for a new 33kV cable.

The cable will form part of a connection between one of Palmerston North’s major substations, at Pascal Street, to the Transpower grid exit point at Bunnythorpe and the Kairanga substation.

Ducting for the cable will be completed over the next six weeks, and the cable itself installed by the end of July.

The work is part of a major upgrade across the city by Powerco over the next few years to ensure a reliable electricity supply into the future.

“Powerco is committed to future-proofing the city’s electricity supply for many years to come,” says Powerco General Manager Electricity Andrew McLeod.

“We are working to ensure that the impact to road users is minimised, however, these works will affect normal traffic flows in the area. We apologise for the inconvenience and would like to thank motorists for their patience while we carry out this important work.”
