Good progress made restoring power

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Powerco has made good progress restoring supply after a large earthquake and severe weather cut power in Taranaki, Manawatu, Whanganui and Wairarapa.

Supply has been restored to the majority of customers and it is expected the remaining properties would have power back on by tonight. This includes customers whose power had gone off today due to high winds.

Powerco Network Coordination Manager Dean Stevenson said it had been an incredibly busy time for field staff.

“Powerco apologies for the inconvenience the power cuts have caused. We are working hard to get power back on to everyone as soon as we can.”

He advised people to continue logging their faults with their electricity retailers. This was especially important for dairy farmers who had lost supply to their cowsheds.

“All customers experiencing prolonged power cuts should contact their retailer so we can dispatch crews to the affected areas.”
