Ferdin Antony, Graduate Engineer

Ferdin Antony is the 14th employee to attain full engineer status through Powerco’s graduate programme.

He joined the company in 2011 after gaining an electrical engineering degree  at Auckland University and spent time with the Planning Department, the Network Operations Centre’s Release Planning team and finally Protection and Control.

That wide cross section of assignments allowed him to develop his skills and helped him attain Protection Engineer status.

"The good thing about working for a big company like Powerco - there is always a large and diverse volume of work,” he said.

He appreciated company encouragement for career advancement through attending courses and EEA conferences. He was a committee member of the Taranaki branch of IPENZ for three years.

Ferdin is an advocate of graduate programmes.

“It’s the ultimate to join a firm as a graduate because you get to sample different parts of the business before settling on the area you like best,” he said.

Kewen Kueh, Graduate Engineer

Kewen joined the Powerco team at the beginning of 2010 upon graduating from University of Canterbury.

He has been part of our Electricity Planning and Technical Services teams, working in a wide range of areas and on large projects. He is currently responsible for managing a substation transformer upgrade project.

"Powerco has a team of well-practiced engineers who, while normally very busy, are always willing to take the time to help when support is required. This makes it an excellent learning environment for graduates being introduced to real-world engineering problems encountered in the electricity sector."

Kewen says Powerco has a diverse and friendly team. "All of the offices have a close knit, team atmosphere.  Powerco excels at being an enjoyable company to work for – one of those places were employee wellbeing is taken seriously."

He says Powerco takes good care of its employees, with good employee recognition schemes and focus on training and development.

"As a Powerco graduate, I have been given the opportunity to work on a wide range of challenging and rewarding projects. Powerco also supports the IPENZ competence qualifications (such as CPEng), which can be important milestone in one’s career path."
