Safety
Powerco is committed to the principle that all occupational injury and illness can be prevented and that the management of health and safety is an integral part of all our responsibilities.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility and Powerco’s number one priority.
We are committed to ensuring our distribution networks are safe for the public, staff and contractors.
Working around electricity and gas networks are dangerous. Overhead lines, underground cables and equipment come with their own risks.
There are some basic measures you can take to make sure you are safe when you are near our networks. Check out the information in the safety section to find out more.
If you are connected to our networks and have any safety concerns phone 0800 272727.
Please let us know if you come across any damaged or dangerous looking parts of the network.
Improving network safety
Here are some examples of projects we have undertaken to make our networks safer.
-
Extending remotely controlled switching on electricity networks.
-
Educating landowners to keep trees trimmed so they do not interfere with electricity lines.
-
A campaign to raise awareness among orchardists of the risks when working near overhead power lines.
-
Implementing a safety management programme to change the way staff and contractors perceive hazards and safety management.
Below is more information on keeping safe.
