Winds cause power headaches in Taranaki

Monday, September 21, 2015

High winds that have battered Taranaki for the past 48 hours have caused several power cuts throughout the province.

Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said pockets of customers have had supply cuts but contractors had worked throughout the day repairing most of them.

“They have been out in tough conditions clearing trees and branches away from lines and repairing broken gear,” he said.

About 300 residents in the Moturoa and Omata areas were currently without power but every effort was being made to have them reconnected tonight. Waitara and Kaponga were two other areas affected but supply was expected back on at both tonight.
