Weather related power cuts hit Whanganui and Taranaki

Monday, May 25, 2015

Power was cut to about 360 customers in the Whanganui region and another 200 in Taranaki this morning after trees tore through overhead lines in strong winds.

Powerco Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said restoration was underway and power was expected to be back on in affected areas by lunchtime.

Mr Stevenson reminded people to use an approved contractor to remove or trim trees that are close to power lines.

“These incidents not only disrupt people’s supply of electricity but they also pose a safety hazard. If vegetation or trees come within 4m of power lines, Powerco approved tree trimming services must be used.”
