Gas supply in Hastings was fully restored about 4pm today after a leak near Hawke's Bay Hospital caused disruption earlier in the day.
Powerco Operations Manager (Gas) Don Elers said temporary repairs were completed, tested and network pressures returned to normal.
The gas main was damaged during maintenance work and only the immediate leak site was still taped off as a safety measure.
“During repairs the pressure in the main was lowered and we asked our large gas customers in the area to reduce use,” he said.
“Retailers and our customers are now being told full supply is restored and the temporary cut backs can cease. We will conduct an investigation in to the incident over the next few days.”
Permanent repairs would be completed over the next week or so.
“We apologise for the disruption and thank all our customers for their patience,” Mr Elers said.
