Supply has been restored to around 11,000 Powerco customers in South Waikato after a power cut at 12.20pm today.
Powerco Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said a fault on Transpower’s 110KV line at Hinuera caused loss of power to Browne St, Lake Rd, Putaruru, Tirau and Tower Rd substations.
“Transpower patrolled its lines but at this stage we do not know the cause of the fault,” Mr Stevenson said.
Power was progressively restored, with all customers being back on line by 2.50pm.
Meanwhile, around 4500 customers in the Bay of Plenty and another 1400 on the Coromandel Peninsula are without power after severe weather went through the regions just before 1pm. Work is underway to restore power to affected areas.
