Predicted clear weather for the coming days will help field crews in their efforts to restore power in Whanganui and Taranaki.
Good progress continued today getting power back on to Whanganui and Taranaki properties hit hard by weekend flooding.
At the height of the storm more than 6000 lost power but in the latest assessment that has been reduced to around 400. Of those, 380 customers are in Whanganui and 40 in Taranaki.
Powerco Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said some properties were isolated by road washouts, slips and fallen trees.
“Waitotara, Uruti, Strathmore and Whakamara are proving especially difficult to get to due to the significant damage caused by the floods.”
He said Powerco was working closely with Civil Defence on access problems and identifying which customers were most in need.
Customers should report faults to their energy retailers to help ensure all areas without power are identified.
