Powerco is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest, conviction and subsequent reparation order from vandals attacking electrical equipment in Manawatu.
Vandals have attacked the local electricity network in Manawatu more than 40 times in the last six months.
Powerco Group Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager Fiona Ewing said the spate of attacks on electrical equipment was particularly concerning due to the potential for serious injury.
She urged members of the public to be vigilant, stay clear of any broken equipment and inform Powerco of the damage.
“These vandals are not only putting their lives at risk – but the lives of the public – by removing safety devices and wrecking equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars.
“For their own safety and those of others, we ask that people do not tamper with the electrical equipment. The potential for serious injury is significant,” Mrs Ewing said.
Due to the significant danger to the public of such illegal activity, Powerco was offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the conviction and subsequent reparation order for theft from the electricity network or vandalism to the network, she said.
People with information can call Powerco confidentially on 0800 769 372 or contact Manawatu Police.
