Power supply to approximately 85 rural consumers in the Taihape area was interrupted today following a fault on Powerco's network.
Powerco Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh said the outage occurred at approximately 9.40am following flooding in the Maowhango River. Storm debris in the swollen river was believed to have ripped down overhead lines.
Powerco field staff were working hard in difficult conditions to get electricity restored to affected properties, Mr Marsh said.
“Powerco is mindful of the inconvenience caused to customers and we are working to get power back on safely as soon as possible. Efforts to gain access to some affected areas are being hampered by flooding, fallen trees and land slips.”
He urged members of the public to keep clear of any damaged lines and report them to Powerco on 0800 272 727.
