Powerco's electricity line distribution charges will increase by an average of 2.7% effective 1 April 2014.
Powerco reviews its electricity distribution charges annually and then bundles them with transmission charges, the bulk of which reflect the costs of running the national grid. Electricity retailers then determine the final tariffs to be passed on to electricity consumers.
Powerco Electricity Pricing Manager Michael Warren said Powerco would also pass on an additional 2.8% increase resulting from changes in the cost of electricity transmission.
“The combined increase in transmission and distribution charges represents an average increase of $4 per month for a typical residential customer and will be an average increase of around 2% to a typical customers overall electricity bill,” Mr Warren said.
