Power was cut to about 1400 properties in Whanganui yesterday morning when a car hit a pole, causing significant damage to Powerco's electricity network.
Acting Network Operations Manager Dean Stevenson said the car crashed into a pole on Springvale Road, affecting customers in the Castlecliff area.
He said supply was lost just before 6am and restored to the majority of customers within an hour.
Around 200 properties remain without supply. Powerco has arranged for an electrical inspector to check each property to ensure power can be reconnected safely.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure supply is restored as quickly and safety as possible,” Mr Stevenson said.
Powerco apologies for the inconvenience caused by the power cut.
Customers should contact their insurance company if their appliances or electrical equipment have been damaged.
